VideoLAN Movie Creator (VLMC) is a free, open-source software program for creating and editing movies. It is based on the libVLC media player, and is available on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. Unlike other free video editing tools VLMC offers more than just basic functionality.

The tool features a well designed interface that includes the standard positioning of a dual screen above a timeline found in so many editing programs. This means that it seems familiar from the very beginning. Importing media is simply a case of dragging and dropping it into the correct position. From there images, videos, and audio files can be manipulated in a variety of ways, such as adding effects. 

VLMC accepts many different media file types, much more than other free video editors. Multiple layers of audio and video can be added, and the process for separating audio from video is remarkably easy. It is also possible to zoom into the timeline, which is a very handy feature that makes aligning layers hassle free.

Everything about VLMC has been designed to make it as easy to use as possible. The drag and drop interface is particularly user friendly, and there is even a wizard to guide you through creating your first project. With VLMC usability and functionality combine to form a very capable video editor.
